American Legion Riders Post 259 Expands 9/11 Legacy Scholarship expanded to Include First Responders' Children in Otsego, Delaware, and Chenango Counties
Oneonta, NY – The American Legion Riders Post 259 are proud to announce a significant expansion of their 9/11 Legacy Scholarship Fund, which will now be open to the children of active first responders in Otsego, Delaware, and Chenango counties. Previously restricted to the children of veterans, this scholarship will now also include the children of firefighters, EMTs, Police, and other emergency personnel, reflecting a broader commitment to supporting the families of all those who serve.
For over 24 years, the American Legion Riders Post 259 has held its annual Legacy Motorcycle Run, raising funds for the educational futures of veterans' children. In the past four years, this event has evolved through a collaboration with the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club, NY Chapter 44, a group representing firefighters and EMTs, to honor the heroic efforts of these first responders. This expanded scholarship reflects the natural progression of that partnership, acknowledging the vital role first responders play in our communities, especially in the years following the 9/11 attacks.
“This scholarship expansion is a way for us to give back to those who continue to protect us every day,” said Chris Chase, Director of Post 259 Riders. “The Red Knights 44 and the Red Knights President, Ken Gracey, have been incredible partners, and by extending this scholarship to the children of first responders, we are recognizing their sacrifice and commitment.”
“This expansion represents our community’s gratitude to the men and women who are always the first on the scene during emergencies. It’s important that we give their children educational opportunities,” said Ken Gracey, President of Red Knights 44
Rob Martinez, Assistant Director of Post 259 Riders, said, “The bond between the American Legion Riders and Red Knights 44 is built on shared values—honoring service and supporting those who keep us safe. We’re proud to offer this scholarship to first responders' families.”
The 9/11 Legacy Scholarship Fund will continue to be awarded annually; coming together to raise money for a cause that directly benefits the next generation of local heroes is an honor.
